Aphro’s Asskicking Anthems – October 2014

What it is, what it is, what it is... shed no tears! Aphro Dynamek back on the scene with the sounds for your beatdowns! We're sticking with the scary motif this month, so even the music gonna get a little strange. After the jump, let's see what track catches some spin this month...

Can you believe that TFC -AND- NY Comic Con was scheduled for the same weekend? Madness, I tell you... madness! Sadly, we all can't be everywhere at once. Or, if you're like me, you simply didn't care enough to go to either event. Whichever the case, your boy Aphro is back to share some of his music. However, I did say that, in honor of Halloween, we we're gonna focus on the morbid & macabre here. This month's anthem is no exception.

For all my metalheads out there, this one's for you! For everyone else out in FGC Land, the ferocity assaulting your ears right now is "Cry of the Banshee" by Brocas Helm from their 2004 album "Defender of the Crown". Majority of the non-metal world was blessed with this track while listening to the Brütal Legend soundtrack. Personally, I can't listen to this song without wanting to mosh like an angry gorilla, but we're not here to talk about me. We're here to match kickass music to badass muscle and this song can only belong to one character...

The best part is that she can say she's already in costume as a sexy Bride of Frankenstein.

That's right, I'm talking about Sindel! Honestly, pity to anyone who didn't see this coming a mile away. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that this is only the SECOND most obvious pairing when it comes to my Anthems column (but more on that in the coming montrhs). To be honest, I didn't really think much of this silver-haired siren when she was first introduced in Mortal Kombat 3, but -- as we all know -- appearances can be deceiving... especially when it comes to fighting games.

Jokes aside, Sindel actually has a pretty sad backstory. She was the Queen of Edenia and benevolently ruled the realm alongside King Jerrod with her lovely daughter Kitana in tow. However, that was all before Shao Kahn showed up and started aggressively redesigning the realm with his armies. Eventually, Jerrod was killed during the invasion and Kahn, more or less, annexed Sindel & Kitana into his new family. Such a burden was too much for her handle and she committed suicide. But, Kahn being the sonuvabitch that he is, the bastard held her soul hostage and managed to bring her back to life with the aid of Shinnok. She was ultimately revived into the shrill harpy that we all know & love/loathe today.

Until next time... keep fighting the good fight, my friends.
