What it is, what it is, what it is... shed no tears! Aphro Dynamek has returned to kick things up to 11! I don't know about anyone else, but I am HYPE for Combo Breaker next week. As such, this month's Anthem is all about turning up the heat!
Admittedly a little bit of a throwback, but a jam is a jam. The jam you're currently listening to is "Yaaran Kollon Sikh Kuriye" from Panjabi MC's 2003 album Beware. It was a decent album for its time, given the use of notable samples & its traditionally Punjabi lyrics. (Although, if I am to be 100% honest with all of you, the English songs on this album are terrible... seriously, just god awful.) Overall, it's possibly most famous track was deemed good enough to merit a Jay-Z remix. Pretty impressive, if I do say so myself.
So who would be worthy enough of a track like this as their unofficial theme? Whose style & personality can feel synonymous with a song with such character? Well, I -did- mention something about turning up the heat with this month's selection and, in that vein, there's a number of different fighters I could choose from & I'd be well in my rights to do so. However, the one I have in mind is damn near pitch perfect...
If you're looking to get it hot, then look no further than Power Stone's own Scorching Beauty, Rouge. Any dancing gypsy that can transform into a fire nymph is A-OK in my book, but I digress. If you want to understand why I'm pairing her with this song, I need you to do two things for me: 1) Remember that this song is borrowing its rhythm from an old En Vogue track, which brings up all kinds of implied sensuality by itself and 2) imagine Rouge dancing to this song the same way Satanico Pandemonium danced to hers in From Dusk till Dawn. Doesn't matter which version of her, either... there wouldn't be a single distracted eye in that room. On that note, I am casually going to leave you with that mental image. You're welcome.
Until next time... keep fighting the good fight, my friends.
