What it is, what it is, what it is... shed no tears! Aphro Dynamek is back with more crazy sounds for all your beatdowns. I hope you enjoyed ECT as much as I did. On that note, this month's Anthem is all about enjoying yourself. So get limber, folks... we're about to jam.
I shouldn't have to introduce this song, but I would be doing all you lovely people a disservice if I kept quiet about it. The upswing invading your soundscape right now is "Hey Pachuco" by the Royal Crown Revue. Should it sound familiar, that's because most, if not all of you have heard it before. This track became the unofficial theme song for 1994's "The Mask" with Jim Carrey. If that's still not enough, then watch this scene and it'll all make sense. (While you're at it, enjoy that little trip down Memory Lane.) Because of this song's infusion with such a fun memory, it's difficult not to get caught up in it. Even if you're not into swing dancing or that big band sound, you have to respect the energy this track brings to the mix. It's almost downright undeniable.
Now, usually, trying to assign songs to FG characters can be a hassle. Sometimes, you don't want to pigeonhold either the track or the fighter. Other times, the link between the two you're trying to make might just be you grasping at straws. However, things can simply fall into place when you least expect it. That's why the fighter I'm choosing this month is the perfect candidate for this song.
One of the most enduring figures on the King of Fighters roster, King has been keeping it classy & stylish since the very beginning. Regardless of whoever she's teamed up with, past or present, she's a force not to be taken lightly. Her famous style is a close second only to her formidable skills in combat. Pretty impressive stuff for a vegetarian, I must admit.
So why did I pick this fighter to go with this song? Because King, in a roundabout way, reminds me of someone from another movie with a nice soundtrack: Rooster from Idlewild. Rooster not only runs his speakeasy, the Church, but he's also its star performer. If you've never seen the movie, the boy knows how to put on a show. How does this relate to King? Well, I can see her doing the same thing at (her club) Illusion. Given her somewhat domineering personality, I'm not sure if she would opt for Carrey's role or Diaz's in the performance. She obviously has the wardrobe to lead, but then again, she could blow everyone's minds & choose to vamp it up. Either way, I know she'd bring the house down!
Until next time... keep fighting the good fight, my friends.
