Aphro’s Asskicking Anthems – January 2015

What it is, what it is, what it is... shed no tears! The one & only Aphro Dynamek is here again with another jam for all your battling needs. We're gonna start off 2015 right by bringing some high energy into the mix. After the jump, see what track gets some play this month...

That right there is "Atsui Kodou" by Isao Bitou... the opening track to one of my all time favorite games, Rival Schools! Such a blast, playing that game. And so many original characters, too... well, not all of them exactly. Still, though, this game (and its AMAZING sequel) were reason enough to enjoy fighting games back in the day, if not a major selling point for their respective consoles. The personalities involved, the story, the mechanics... everything about this title just rocked. Obviously, the soundtrack had its fair share of choice cuts and all that started with this track.

So what fighter fits this song well enough for it to be their unofficial theme? Well, to be perfectly honest, there are a handful of badass men & women who could fit this particular bill, but one in particular stands above the rest. Let me tell you, folks, this one's a real firecracker...

KABOOM! Guess who stepped in the room...

One of, if not THE ballsiest chicks you'll ever find in a game... Asuka Kazama! There aren't many highschool girls I know that would (happily) go up against a gang of guys twice her size -- or a murderous kung fu master, for that matter -- beause they felt it would be "fun". Asuka is brash, brazen & always ready to fight. The confidence she has in her own skills is practically a defining characteristic at this point. Another recent definitive trait of hers would be the heated rivalry she's developed with Lili. Wow, talk about your all time beefs between characters. For all these reasons & more, "Atsui Kodou" fits this brawling beauty perfectly.

Until next time... keep fighting the good fight, my friends.
