The Malloy List – April 2015

Hot diggity daffodil! Can you believe the month we're having so far? Weather's finally acting right, so many events are just around the corner and one of the biggest launches in gaming history happened. I still got a job to do, though. After the jump, say hello to the latest addition to the Malloy List...

We're going to do things a little differently this month. Frankly, the circumstances demand it. Let's just address the elephant in the room right off the bat: MKX has taken the FGC by storm! As such, it's not even a question as to what game is going to be chosen. I would have to be as clueless as the old emperor to overlook the impact this game has had on not only the FGC, but the ESL & LGBT communities, as well. Seriously, there's going to come a time in the future when we'll look back in awe at the sheer magnitude of how this game was the turning point for our community. Also, it doesn't hurt that the game is amazing.

Okay, all my gushing aside, there's still the task of etching another name on to the List. A little while back, I made the case for my favorite slasher to appear in MKX and, apparently, someone out there must like me because my wish came true a few days later. While I was still reeling from that bombshell, they took it a step further & added the galaxy's deadliest rastafarian into the mix! After watching Freddy Krueger & Kratos raise every circle of hell in MK9, I highly doubt anyone would be opposed to having one more guest character this time around. Even better, I think I know the perfect candidate...

"Do I look like someone who cares what the Elder Gods think?"

"Do I look like someone who cares what the Elder Gods think?"

After Jason Voorhees, Hellraiser's Pinhead was actually my second choice. To be perfectly honest, given Ed Boon's perpetual preferential treatment of Scorpion throughout the series and beyond, I'm actually shocked it hasn't happened already. Here's a guy who started out as a soldier during the Battles of Flanders, lost his faith in humanity, opened the Lament Configuration and not only became just any servant, but the most favored servant of Leviathan, Lord of the Labyrinth. Suffice it to say, that's no easy task. He leads the Cenobites in their eternal mission of soul harvesting and, if I may be frank, they're pretty damn good at their job.

In hindsight, though, I can see that there may be one too many similarities between his story and the relationship between Quan Chi & Shinnok. I would also have to be blind to overlook the mild resmeblance he shares with the former of those two, not to mention his possible variations almost feeling copied from the latter's powers. Don't even get me started on what kind of outfits/skins he could have because that's opening Pandora's Box to a world of S&M gear that would probably even make Voldo blush. Still, though, a man can dream. I suppose I'll make due with Tremor once he's available because he looks like a beast!

Until next time... good fighting the good fight, my friends.
